About

The Role

FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring practice addresses the full spectrum of financial and transactional challenges faced by corporations, boards, private equity sponsors, creditor constituencies and other stakeholders. Our Real Estate Solutions group provides integrated financial, tax and real estate solutions for clients with underlying value in real estate operations and assets, including M&A, due diligence, valuation, lease consulting, forensic accounting, financial outsourcing, IPO, REIT tax structuring and compliance, executive compensation, master planning and development services, cost segregation and private client services.

We serve leading real estate entities including Equity and Mortgage REITs, financial institutions, investment banks, opportunity funds, insurance companies, hedge funds, pension advisors and owners/developers.

What You’ll Do

This is a great opportunity for a tax professional to play a significant role on a major client-service team. You will oversee day-to-day workflow management and ensure responsiveness to client deadlines for tax returns and special projects. You will manage the tax return preparation process, grow technically, and collaborate with high-visibility clients. You may also work with real estate clients, including REITs and private equity real estate funds.

This role is fast-paced, results-oriented and collaborative, with opportunities for professional and career growth.

  • Review Corporate and Partnership tax returns.
  • Highlight tax issues or unusual relationships from basic analysis of financial statements.
  • Document tax compliance forms as defined in planning.
  • Assign and review work papers to staff and assist in writing correspondence to tax authorities.
  • Research tax and client inquiries.
  • Build tax knowledge across various states.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and competence with client matters and personal growth.
  • Focus on client requests, be responsive to client changes and develop strong relationships with client personnel.
  • Understand client industries.
  • Train tax team members through teamwork and leadership; set goals and provide feedback during the tax compliance process.
  • Foster openness to communicate and develop client accounting/tax systems/processes.
  • Learn about the client’s business and stay current on industry and tax matters; present information to the tax team and propose enhancements to future tax planning.
  • Develop collaborative skills in dealings with internal and external clients and use technology to enhance tax preparation and reporting.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities and contacts for Real Estate Solutions; support the proposal process.
  • Pursue ongoing education and career growth through study, CPA exam preparation and CPE courses.

What You Will Need To Succeed

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of post-graduate work experience
  • Education aligned with CPA exam requirements
  • Experience in real estate and partnership taxation
  • This role may require travel to clients and FTI offices
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the employer will not sponsor work visas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in public accounting is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and accounting or audit knowledge
