Tax Senior, Alternative Investments – BDO USA
Job SummaryThis role in our Alternative Investments practice assists in providing tax compliance and consulting services to our Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.
Responsibilities Tax Compliance- Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and that self and client service teams comply with all firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
- Applies understanding of clients’ unique circumstances, documentation, and regulatory requirements to prepare required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance while keeping tax and reporting burdens low.
- Ensures all data needed for filing requirements are collected; identifies and communicates missing items.
- Utilizes firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax preparation.
- Collaborates with Manager and Associates on project completion (follow‑up with Open items list).
- Delivers high‑quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
- Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
- Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and the project budget.
- Ensures documentation and conclusions are recorded in the client tax file.
- Assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
- Mentors teams of Associates.
- Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics; OR Bachelor’s Degree in another focus area and CPA certification. - Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Accountancy or Taxation.
- Required:
Two (2) or more years of tax experience. - Preferred:
Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds (Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, Hedge Funds). - Preferred:
Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships.
- Preferred: CPA certification, attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA).
- Preferred:
Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role.
- Preferred:
Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat. - Preferred:
Experience with tax research databases. - Preferred:
Proficiency in tax compliance process software.
