Location: Midtown Manhattan (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller/Controller Level Candidate to manage advanced accounting operations and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP
, Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), and regulatory reporting standards. This role involves overseeing financial close processes, implementing new accounting standards, and driving operational efficiency through ERP system migrations
, internal control enhancements
, and process automation
. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in insurance accounting
, strong analytical skills, and proven leadership experience.

Core Responsibilities
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly financial close cycles under GAAP and SAP, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Interpret and apply new accounting standards, regulatory updates, and statutory requirements.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis
    , identify key performance drivers, and present actionable insights.
  • Validate high-risk transactions, including payroll and capitalized software development costs
    .
  • Develop short-term cash flow forecasts to support liquidity management and investment strategies.
  • Lead ERP system conversions
    , strengthen SOX-compliant internal controls
    , and optimize reporting processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in GAAP and SAP accounting frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance accounting
    , regulatory reporting
    , and financial compliance
    .
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in insurance industry operations or financial services.
  • Leadership experience in supervising and mentoring accounting teams.
  • Proficiency with ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Workday) and financial reporting tools
