About the RoleAs the Payments Product Manager, you’ll own the end-to-end lifecycle of Accrue’s payments products and infrastructure — spanning money movement, risk, and fraud. You’ll define the strategy for payment flows, manage integrations with processors and banking partners, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure compliance, scalability, and customer trust.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, understands the technical and regulatory nuance of payments and fraud prevention, and can translate complex systems into intuitive, merchant- and user-facing experiences.
Job Requirements What you’ll do- Lead the product vision, roadmap, and execution for payments-related initiatives (e.g., money movement, deposits, disbursements, refunds, reconciliation, fraud mitigation).
- Design and optimize fraud rules, risk controls, and monitoring systems; analyze behavioral and usage patterns to identify, mitigate, and prevent bad-actor activity.
- Lead product discovery, requirements gathering, and prioritization across internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Collaborate closely with engineering to design scalable, secure, and reliable payments systems and APIs.
- Work with compliance, risk, and legal teams to ensure adherence to KYC, AML, PCI, NACHA, and other financial regulations — with an expectation of strong command, not just familiarity.
- Partner with external vendors, processors, and banking partners to manage integrations, performance, and ongoing improvements; understand how these providers impact auth rates, costs, risk, and capabilities.
- Monitor and optimize key performance indicators (e.g., payment success rate, latency, fraud rate, cost efficiency).
- Identify and implement optimizations to improve payment conversion, settlement times, and user satisfaction.
- Drive incident response and root-cause analysis for payment-related issues; lead post-mortems and improvement plans.
- Communicate priorities, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly — including translating technical and regulatory concepts into clear, digestible guidance for merchants.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving regulations across payments, fraud, and financial infrastructure.
- 5+ years of product management experience, ideally in fintech, fraud, payments, or financial infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of payment processing, card networks, ACH, digital wallets, and bank transfers — or the ability to learn these systems deeply and quickly.
- Experience working with third-party providers (e.g., Stripe, Plaid, Marqeta, Modern Treasury). You understand how these partners shape core flows like auth, settlement, reconciliation, KYC, and risk decisions.
- Deep collaboration experience with engineering teams, including comfort discussing API design and system architecture.
- Strong command of compliance and regulatory requirements (KYC, AML, PCI, NACHA, Reg E, UDAAP). You can apply these rules to product decisions, risk design, and operational processes.
- Proven ability to define clear product roadmaps and deliver complex features on time.
- Exceptional communication skills — able to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders and ensure merchants understand decisions and implications.
- Advanced analytical capability — able to work with large datasets, build and interpret complex metrics, and apply quantitative reasoning. (Math, statistics, or data-heavy background strongly preferred.)
- Strong project management skills, with a bias toward execution and accountability.
- Startup or high-growth experience preferred — comfortable with ambiguity, pace, and iterative building.
- Experience launching financial products with strong compliance or banking dependencies.
- Prior engineering or technical background (bonus, not…
