Job Summary

Join the Office of Investment Management (OIM) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) as an Investment Officer (Real Estate) and contribute to managing a multi‑asset, global investment portfolio exceeding $100 billion. OIM actively manages approximately 85% of the Fund’s assets in‑house across global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber, commodities, and other alternative investments.

This position is located in the Real Estate Team within the Private Markets Section of OIM. The Investment Officer reports directly to the Senior Investment Officer (SIO), Real Estate / Real Assets, and supports the management and growth of the Fund’s global real estate portfolio, which currently exceeds $5 billion and comprises more than 125 investments in private open‑ended and closed‑ended real estate funds.

The portfolio is expected to grow significantly over the next three years.

The incumbent plays a key role in sourcing, analyzing, executing, and monitoring global real estate investments, including private funds, co‑investments, and publicly traded REITs, with the objective of optimizing long‑term, risk‑adjusted returns in line with OIM’s investment policies, risk framework, and responsible investment principles.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist the Senior Investment Officer in managing and investing the Fund’s assets in global real estate markets.
  • Conduct pre‑investment due diligence and provide analytical support for investment recommendations.
  • Balance long‑term strategic objectives with short‑term performance goals through market research and portfolio analysis aimed at outperforming benchmarks.
  • Monitor assigned portfolio holdings and conduct security and performance analysis of external real estate managers.
  • Ensure compliance with OIM’s investment policies, procedures, and risk control parameters.
  • Integrate Principles of Responsible Investment into investment analysis and ongoing monitoring of internally and externally managed holdings.
  • Conduct periodic portfolio reviews and present findings at internal Portfolio Review Meetings.
  • Perform portfolio‑level analysis using risk management and analytical tools.
  • Evaluate opportunities in publicly traded REITs to complement and diversify the Fund’s private real estate portfolio, ensuring alignment with investment objectives and risk parameters.
  • Conduct fundamental analysis of potential investments using financial statements, market data, and industry research.
  • Review and synthesize research from internal teams and external advisors, strategists, economists, and research providers.
  • Develop and maintain financial models using Excel to support valuation and investment decision‑making.
  • Assist in evaluating the quality of recommendations from the Fund’s external advisors and assess manager performance.
  • Participate in interviews with fund managers and review fund documentation and legal structures.
  • Contribute to investment recommendations that meet the Fund’s four investment criteria: safety, profitability, liquidity, and convertibility.
  • Participate in discussions related to asset allocation decisions, including private market co‑investments.
  • Assist in preparing timely and accurate reports for the RSG, CIO, and senior management when requested.
  • Support reporting on investments and related matters to governing bodies.
  • Promote transparency, accountability, and accurate record‑keeping in all aspects of portfolio management.
  • Attend investment conferences and seminars to remain connected with academic and industry experts.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required, approximately once per month.
