Job Title: Assistant Controller – Private Equity Secondaries
Compensation: $110,000 – $135,000 base + $30,000–$35,000 bonus
Experience Level: 5–7 years + preferred (Big 4 CPA required; public/private mix ideal)
Location: Hybrid – 3 days in office (NYC-based)
Status: Full-time, Permanent
A leading global investment management firm is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its Private Equity Secondaries finance team. This role offers exposure to a fast-growing alternatives platform, with multi-billion-dollar assets under management across secondary investments, co-investments, and fund of funds strategies.
The Assistant Controller will oversee fund accounting and reporting processes, coordinate with fund administrators, and work closely with auditors, tax professionals, investor relations, and senior management. This is a highly visible position for a finance professional who thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee accounting and financial reporting for secondary private equity funds.
Manage and review work from external fund administrators, including quarterly financial statements, capital account statements, capital calls, and distribution notices.
Review audited financial statements and related disclosures.
Analyze and validate distribution waterfalls per fund legal documents.
Review management fee calculations and partnership IRRs on a quarterly basis.
Prepare cash projections for fund liquidity management.
Partner with investor relations and marketing teams on LP reporting, RFP responses, and ad hoc requests.
Collaborate with audit and tax teams during year-end processes.
Support regulatory compliance requirements as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
CPA required (Big 4 public accounting experience; combination of public and private preferred).
4–7 years of accounting or finance experience, with private equity fund experience a plus.
Strong knowledge of fund accounting, GAAP, and financial reporting.
Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work independently while meeting tight deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills preferred.
