The Actuarial Consulting Practice of Oliver Wyman advises clients across a broad spectrum of risk management issues. Using mathematical and statistical modeling skills along with qualitative assessment methodologies, we help clients evaluate and address risk, manage and prepare for potential financial consequences of uncertain future events, and provide independent, objective advice in the primary risk areas of healthcare, life and annuity, and property and casualty.
Job DescriptionOliver Wyman is seeking an ambitious actuary to join the US P&C Practice as a Consulting Actuary on the M&A team. The new M&A Consulting Actuary will contribute to a broad range of due diligence and analytical efforts, support reinsurance and acquisition processes across the US and globally, and play a key role in managing, executing, and delivering projects for top-tier insurance, reinsurance, asset‑management, private equity, banking, legal, and regulatory clients.
Potential projects and responsibilities may include:
- Execute actuarial due diligence projects for M&A and reinsurance transactions, including review of reports, data, and models to assess reserve adequacy, loss‑ratio projections, and pricing & underwriting practices.
- Quantify downside risk associated with potential transactions using stochastic modeling.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis on exposure and loss data to uncover important business shifts; decompose complex datasets into simple narratives and recommendations.
- Develop executive‑level management reports and data visualizations.
- Present findings to senior management and C‑suite executives.
- Build a network of industry contacts through deals, conferences, and events.
- Participate in client sales meetings and proposal development.
- Work in partnership with management consulting and actuarial practices in the US and globally.
- BA/BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of professional actuarial experience in consulting or insurance.
- FCAS credential required.
- Broad exposure to P&C insurance in areas such as pricing, reserving, data & analytics, or risk management, with subject‑matter expertise in at least one area (preferably across multiple lines of business).
- Ability to lead and manage projects, including delegation and client solution development.
- Proficiency in Python or R.
- Strong time‑management skills, able to meet tight deadlines in fast‑paced environments.
- Attention to detail and capability to juggle multiple projects concurrently.
- Intellectual curiosity and strategic, creative thinking.
- Self‑motivated, entrepreneurial attitude, and willingness to work long hours.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Prior M&A experience is preferred but not required.

The applicable base salary range for this role is USD $100,000 to $195,000. The base pay will be determined based on experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for performance‑based incentives.
