Financial Reporting, Accounting & Finance, Financial Controller
Our client is a rapidly growing private investment fund focused on making idiosyncratic investments across the capital structure, with an emphasis on delivering tailored capital solutions. The firm has raised approximately $5 billion in capital over the past three years and aims to scale to $15 billion within the next two to three years.
They are a rapidly growing Special Situations fund with over $5 billion in AUM and a commitment to innovation and excellence. Looking for a Management Company Accountant to run the financial engine of the firm itself, not just the funds we manage. You will report directly to the COO/CFO and take full ownership of the management company’s books, tax position, compensation accounting, budgeting, and reporting.
This is a builder’s role, not a maintenance role. The management company currently runs on Quick Books, and you will be the one who decides what it runs on next, leading the evaluation and migration to a system built for a firm of our scale and ambition. You will have direct exposure to the COO/CFO and partners, real ownership over how the firm’s own finances are run, and the chance to build the infrastructure that scales with us.
Responsibilities include:
- Own the management company’s books and records in Quick Books, including the monthly close, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Lead the evaluation and migration to a more robust accounting system (e.g., Sage Intacct, Net Suite, or similar), including the policies and controls that come with it.
- Manage tax compliance for the management company and affiliated entities, including federal, state, and local filings, K-1s, and estimated payments, working closely with outside tax preparers.
- Own compensation and payroll accounting, partnering with HR and the COO/CFO on salaries, bonus accruals, and partner distributions.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting, monitoring actuals against budget and flagging variances.
- Deliver management reporting to the COO/CFO and partners, and lead the annual management company audit.
- Partner across Fund Accounting, Operations, Legal, and Compliance, and take on ad hoc projects as they come up.
We want someone who wants to own this. The right person sees a management company still running on Quick Books and gets excited about what they could build instead of unsettled by the work involved. You will have real autonomy, a direct line to the COO/CFO, and a mandate to modernize how the firm runs its own finances.
- Builder Mindset:
Sees an under-built process as an opportunity, not a burden, and is energized by designing systems and controls from scratch. - Ownership:
Takes full responsibility for work product and outcomes, and closes loops without being asked. - Analytical Rigor:
Sharp, precise, and comfortable owning numbers that go straight to the COO/CFO and partners. - Effective Communicator:
Clear and direct with the COO/CFO, service providers, and external advisors alike. - Organizational Excellence:
Manages competing deadlines across accounting, tax, budgeting, and reporting without dropping a ball.
