MRB Group is a nationwide multi-disciplined, high-energy local government services firm where creativity and innovation are valued. We are recruiting a Senior Planning Associate to join our growing long-range planning practice at our Rochester, New York headquarters.

Job Description

As a Senior Planning Associate, you will be part of the interdisciplinary Municipal Services Division, which includes planners, architects, economic developers, policy advisors, grant writers, and engineers, all working to build healthy communities. Our team focuses on innovative, collaborative, sustainable, and community-driven planning approaches.

This position is based in Rochester, NY, with a hybrid work model negotiable. You will primarily work with communities across New York and potentially assist our offices in South Carolina, Texas, and Michigan on planning, economic development, and urban design projects.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable, community-driven planning and has extensive experience managing complex projects. Responsibilities include supervising research, public engagement, and plan development for projects such as:

• Comprehensive and Long-Range Plans
• Zoning and Development Code Updates
• Waterfront, Neighborhood, and Downtown Revitalization Plans
• Housing Strategies
• Active Transportation Plans
• Community Development and Placemaking Strategies

We seek a versatile candidate capable of applying best planning practices for communities of all sizes, from small rural villages to large metropolitan areas.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, or related field
• 7+ years of local government planning or consulting experience
• AICP or RLA Certification (preferred)
• Experience leading long-range planning projects
• Knowledge of software such as Adobe Creative Suite and ArcGIS
• Strong understanding of land use, housing, transportation, urban design, and sustainable development principles
• Passion for learning and innovation in planning
• Team-oriented with interdisciplinary project experience
• Confident public speaking and engagement skills

Location and Salary

Location:

Rochester, NY (hybrid/other Upstate NY locations possible)

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000, based on experience and qualifications.
