Position: Structural Plans Examiner (Part-Time)
Location: Town of Florida

Overview

The City of Hollywood seeks highly skilled professionals for Key Roles in the Building Division. Starting salary range is $94,207.51 - $ annually, dependent on qualifications. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is available for key roles in the Building Division. The City offers competitive pay, benefits, and long-term career opportunities. Highest priority is given to candidates with extensive engineering background and licensure as a Professional Engineer or Engineer Intern. Responsibilities
  • Works for the Building Official under the direct supervision of the Chief Building Inspector; conducts Structural Plan Review for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other State Statutes.
  • Consults with architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners on building plan reviews to streamline the permitting process.
  • Supervises employees and inspects buildings in construction for code compliance; inspects sites before construction for plan practicality.
  • Coordinates inspections for alteration and repair work; examines submitted plans for conformance with building requirements.
  • Receives applications and plans, checks structural features, and answers inquiries on code requirements.
  • Recommends interpretations of revisions to building regulations and trains new inspectors.
  • Participates in seminars and training to stay informed on code changes.
  • Represents the City professionally in dealings with colleagues and the public; establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Performs related duties as required for the position.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED; valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Certified as required by the State of Florida BCAIB as a Structural Plans Examiner and as a Structural Inspector (Engineers exempt from BCAIB).
  • Certified by Board of Rules and Appeals with at least one of the following qualifications:
  • Be a Florida Registered Architect or Florida Licensed Professional Engineer with five years of experience in the State, including HVHZ experience or HVHZ exam.
  • Be a Standard Inspector with minimum one year appointment by an AHJ or school board and meet HVHZ/BORA requirements.
  • Be a Florida Registered Architect or Engineer in the requested discipline with HVHZ experience or BORA HVHZ exam; or be BCAIB Standard Inspector with HVHZ experience and possible license requirements within one year.
  • Have five years of structural construction experience with HVHZ considerations, with potential licensing requirements within one year; or ten years with HVHZ exposure and eventual unlimited GC license within one year.

Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination may be substituted for the above requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of building construction work and inspection processes.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and methods, and detection of violations and defects.
  • Knowledge of city and building codes and related laws.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and blueprints, and compare them with construction in process.
  • Ability to consult with owners, contractors, and the public; establish professional relationships with builders and their representatives.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.
