Overview

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution.

The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) is responsible for the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) planning and implementation for the City. The Program Coordinator will coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Unified Stormwater Rule and its successors, participate in updates to the New York City Stormwater Manual, and provide technical assistance in the Stormwater Permitting Tracking System.

Responsibilities
  • Perform data management tasks for the Stormwater Permitting Program.
  • Observe progress of permitting and enforcement of construction/post construction program.
  • Troubleshoot issues with the Stormwater Permit Tracking System (SWPTS) and work with the SWPTS Administrator.
  • Produce high‑quality presentation‑ready tables, maps, diagrams, and other analytical tools for dissemination within BEPA and DEP, as well as to community boards, city council districts, assembly districts, and local press.
  • Monitor permitted projects and inform when inspections should be performed based on provided information by the applicants.
  • Aid in application screening and making project assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. All candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use a computer to organize and analyze data.
  • Ability to work well with other staff and the public.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience presenting to the public.
  • Prior experience in supporting regulatory compliance efforts.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City employees in certain titles who have worked for the city for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
