Pay Range$96,336.00/yr - $/yr
Responsibilities- Direct, supervise and oversee the Forestry program for Region 2, including staff of Forester 2’s and Forestry Technicians; establish Regional workplans, evaluate and hire staff as needed, and use fiscal and physical resources to meet Division objectives.
- Develop and collaborate with other Regional program units to achieve state land management objectives; implement forestry health measures and secure resources.
- Communicate and collaborate with local, NY State, and Federal agencies, as well as non‑profit and constituent groups on urban forestry and forest health issues.
- Prepare correspondence and represent forestry programs in managerial, executive, advisory, and planning board meetings of local governments; manage the State Land and capital construction budgets.
- Manage the Region’s Urban Forestry program, including grant management, conference participation, and training of local forestry practitioners.
- Guide the Regional Forestry land acquisition program, collaborating with Regional and Real Property staff; reach out to land owners and prepare acquisition documents.
- Promotional:
One year of permanent experience as a Forester 2 or three years of permanent experience as a Forester 1. - Open Competitive: A bachelor’s or higher degree in ecological forest management, forest biology, forest ecosystem science, forest health, forest resource management, forestry, natural resources planning, natural resources management, natural resources conservation, or urban forestry AND four years of professional‑level forestry experience, including one year of supervisory experience. A Master’s Degree can substitute for one year of non‑supervisory specialized experience.

- Valid driver’s license or proof of ability to meet transportation needs.
- Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, required.
- Ability to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas, and operate in adverse weather conditions.
- Potential travel, overtime, overnight travel, weekends, and holidays.
- Must lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
- Telecommuting may be available after discussion.
