Under the direction and supervision of the Deputy Borough Commissioner, the selected candidate will support special assignments and projects by serving as a key liaison between the Borough Office, community stakeholders, and internal and external partners. The role involves coordinating with community boards, elected officials, civic organizations, and DOT divisions to investigate and help resolve issues through meetings, site visits, and research‑driven analysis related to transportation planning initiatives.
The candidate will identify emerging issues, develop policy‑informed recommendations, contribute to project scopes of work, and establish execution targets through comprehensive action plans. Responsibilities also include preparing, collecting, and analyzing data for borough correspondence and status reports; advancing capital projects and studies through effective inter‑agency coordination; responding to inquiries from stakeholders and the public; representing the Borough Commissioner at meetings as directed;
supporting media responses in collaboration with the DOT Press Office; assisting with borough budget consultation preparations; maintaining the NYPD Intelligence Report database; and performing all other duties related to the title, as assigned.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.
Knowledge of NYC government and transportation issues and an interest in urban planning & geography. Experience using GIS products. Experience using Adobe products (Illustrator, Photoshop). Strong analytic, communication and presentation skills. Familiarity with traffic calming techniques and knowledge of basic street design principles. Ability to work in a collaborative, creative and results‑oriented environment. Familiarity with the Borough of Brooklyn is helpful, but not required.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
