The City of New York is governed by the Mayor’s Office, which oversees city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration prioritizes making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and strengthening New York City’s economy. The city operates with core values of leadership, transparency, fairness, and efficiency, actively seeking diverse talents from various sectors to join its workforce.
The Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) is a specialized team composed of architects, lawyers, data and climate scientists, engineers, policy advisors, geologists, and city planners. This office is dedicated to creating a city where New York’s 8.8 million residents can live, work, learn, and play in healthy, resilient, and sustainable neighborhoods. MOCEJ integrates sustainability, resiliency, and environmental justice into one coordinated approach across several climate and environmental offices, working to make buildings efficient and resilient, infrastructure climate-ready, streets and open spaces active, safe, and healthy, and energy clean and resilient.
MOCEJ is committed to improving environmental quality for all New Yorkers, with a particular focus on prioritizing front-line communities and seeking to redress current and past injustices and inequities while creating economic opportunities. Through science-based analysis, policy and program development, and capacity building, MOCEJ leads the city’s efforts to ensure that New York City minimizes its contributions to climate change, prepares to adapt and protect New Yorkers from extreme weather and multiple climate hazards, and gives every New Yorker a meaningful voice in the city’s future.
