Location: City of Binghamton
Licensed Practical Nurse - Rheumatology - Full Time
Position Summary:
Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice within the maximum scope of license.
PayBase pay range: $21.80/hr - $34.02/hr pay range shown includes DOE. This position qualifies for up to $15,000.00 Sign on Bonus for those who qualify with more than one year of experience. (For those with under one year of experience, the sign-on bonus is $7,500.00 for those who qualify.)
Education, License & Cert- LPN – Must be licensed in the state of practice.
- One year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required.
- Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart. Interview patient to obtain history and reconcile medication list.
- Write or call prescriptions after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed; chart as written in patient’s chart.
- Email, fax, or call in insurance referrals; follow up with the referral number to the specialist if requested.
- Assist in departmental operations by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistants, and MOAs as requested. Answer telephone and perform other clerical functions as necessary; train and maintain proficiency in computer equipment and software as requested.
- Attend to exam and procedure rooms; ensure proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness. Order medications or clinical supplies as requested.
- Administer prescribed injections/medications and record them in the patient’s chart.
- Direct patients after exams to proper areas for ancillary testing or follow-up appointments (blood work, x-rays) and record lab testing as requested.
- Basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.).
- Read and review pathology results with patients.
- Set up and tear down sterile fields; basic knowledge of surgical instruments; prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures.
- Assist surgeon with operative procedures in the office and, if necessary, in the Operating Room.
- Maintain infection control measures including proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave; proficient with autoclave sterilization process.
- Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal; assess signs and symptoms of infection and report to the surgeon and/or provider.
- Hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse; may perform high level disinfection based on departmental equipment.
- As assigned for LPN licensure; attend new employee orientation and mandatory events such as in-services, classes, and training as required by the organization.
- Complies with the dress code policy as set forth by Guthrie; attends and participates in department meetings and contributes to department/office goals.
