Overview
Job Summary:
To provide support, strategies, and appropriate intervention and supervision for the preschool staff, programs, children and their families in the context of a preschool setting.
- Performs diagnostic services in at least two of the three clinical areas (Screening, Early Intervention, Preschool).
- Independently performs assessments in all three areas and selects, utilizes, and interprets appropriate testing materials and instrumentation based on presenting needs.
- Actively participates in research on potential updates or improvements to clinical departmental protocol, instrumentation, testing, or teaching methods.
- Formulates child-specific long- and short-term goals consistent with IEP format within a transdisciplinary context; implements and supports program staff to do the same.
- Demonstrates proficiency with IEP Direct and other IEP programs; uses strategies across multiple models (center-based, autism spectrum classrooms, related service, EI, etc.).
- Uses multimodal strategies and adjusts methods and interventions, including changes to the physical environment and daily routine, and supports adult-child and child-child interactions.
- Documents clinical work within established time frames (diagnostic reports, progress notes, lesson plans, annual reports) according to program requirements and mandates.
- Maintains effective communication with families and professionals, participates in weekly meetings, and supports cooperative planning across teams (classroom, site, core, best practice, diagnostic teams).
- Interagency and intra-agency communication to share information with staff and external partners; follows crisis protocols and program procedures.
- Provides mentorship/supervision for ED, OT, or PT staff; supports orientation and other related duties as assigned.
- EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 years experience. - EDUCATION:
Masters Degree in Special Education; or Bachelors degree for designated specialty areas including but not limited to Behavior and Family Therapies. - LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Meets NYSED Department requirements as described by position and as required for the program.
