The Safety, Environment, & Occupational Health Coordinator promotes a safe and healthy workplace by preventing, recognizing, and treating work-related injuries and illnesses. This role blends nursing care and safety leadership, focusing on employee wellness, compliance, and injury management, including Workers’ Compensation.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading resource on employee health and wellness matters, including reviewing physician reports, Workers’ Compensation claims, and medical restrictions. Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Provide first aid and medical assistance to employees who become ill or injured at work.
- Document, investigate, and manage work-related injuries and illnesses, including Workers’ Compensation cases.
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by visual verification of employee compliance and operation’s effectiveness. Maintain compliance with state and federal safety standards and other applicable regulations.
- Lead safety meetings, training sessions, and accident investigations
- Conduct safety audits, job hazard analyses, and routine inspections.
- Champion and implement health promotion and wellness programs (e.g., ergonomics, flu shots, health fairs, blood drives, healthy lifestyle initiatives).
- Collaborate with local occupational clinics and healthcare providers to support employee recovery and case management.
- Maintain medical supply inventory and ensure regular inspections of safety equipment.
- On-site role in a manufacturing facility - daily presence on the shop floor required
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent relevant experience required
- Current LPN or RN license in the state of Michigan preferred, but not required
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of occupational health or critical care nursing experience required
- Experience in occupational health and safety within a manufacturing environment strongly desired
- Familiarity with state Workers’ Compensation case management and OSHA training preferred
- Experience training others on First Aid/CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens, or certified trainer, is a plus
- Knowledge of state and federal laws related to Workers’ Compensation and medical confidentiality
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Sound judgment and analytical abilities with attention to confidentiality
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, physicians, and external healthcare partners
- Flexibility to support production teams and respond to off-hour emergencies as needed
- Occasional travel will be required for multi-site support or training
