Title: Crisis Intervention Specialist

Supervisor: Assistant Director of Clinic Services

The Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) is a role model who provides support to staff during behavioral interventions and monitors staff/consumer interactions to promote optimal choice making, social development, and goal setting opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Use a proactive approach to encourage consumer choice making; assist in physical redirection techniques, as per OPWDD SCIP certification and individualized adaptive behavior programs.
  • Receive and complete coverage assignments from the Assistant Director of Clinic; assign coverage as needed.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and reviewing consumer adaptive behavior goal plans; observe implementation and offer recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in logs such as behavioral observation, interpersonal relationships, nursing, medication, exposure control, communication, first aid, and neighborhood reaction; review, consult, and notify relevant programs and departments as necessary.
  • Promote independence by observing, teaching, and supervising consumers during daily routines and activities, including arrival, programs, leisure activities, self-care, community outings, and meals; actively participate and assist staff.
  • Have knowledge of CFA components and conduct consumer-focused meetings and reviews.
  • Maintain DRIVER AUTHORIZATION status as per IGHL policy.
  • Adhere to IGHL and OPWDD policies, including safety and code of conduct; complete required forms such as fire safety, incident reports, time sheets, and others.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and agency committees; request supplies and provide coverage in other program areas as needed.
  • Perform all other responsibilities as directed by management.
  • Requirements:

    • High School Diploma/GED
    • At least 3 years of experience working with disabled populations, including 1 year with behaviorally challenged consumers.
