SNAP Specialist

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Job Type: Full Time
Schedule: Hybrid, four days on-site and one day remote
Salary: DoE

Job Description:

We are seeking a SNAP Specialist to support outreach, education, and enrollment assistance for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This role focuses on serving underserved communities in Boro Park and helping clients understand eligibility requirements, complete applications, and access a wide range of related benefits. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail oriented, and comfortable working directly with diverse populations across New York City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct outreach to community organizations, emergency food programs, and partner agencies
  • Educate clients on SNAP rules, benefits, and eligibility criteria
  • Screen, counsel, and guide clients through documentation requirements
  • Assist households with SNAP applications using online tools such as Access HRA
  • Provide post-application support and advocacy for disputed cases
  • Offer case management, including periodic reports and case change forms
  • Assist SNAP participants with recertification using online systems
  • Collaborate with partner agencies and internal departments
  • Attend outreach events, fairs, and forums, including occasional nontraditional hours
  • Connect clients with additional programs such as Fair Fares, free tax prep services, health insurance, HEAP, NYC Care, and WIC
  • Document all services using database systems, including Salesforce
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior extensive experience working with the Orthodox Jewish community required
  • Background in public health, public administration, or human services preferred
  • Additional language skills strongly preferred, especially Spanish or Russian
  • Knowledge of government benefit programs is a plus
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow regulatory requirements
  • Comfort using web-based systems, online tools, and databases
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the five boroughs
