Assistant Director for Asthma Capacity Building, Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health

The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) is dedicated to eliminating inequities that lead to premature mortality. CHECW works to increase visibility of socially unjust policy and push for redress in NYC communities. The Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, part of CHECW, partners with community, faith‑based, and health care organizations to expand access to high‑quality, culturally responsive programs that prevent and manage chronic diseases, especially for residents facing the greatest health challenges.

The Bureau empowers New Yorkers through education on diabetes, asthma, nutrition, food security, newborn safety, and childbirth. The Assistant Director for Asthma Capacity Building will lead community engagement and capacity‑building efforts for the Bronx Asthma Program.

Duties
  • Strengthen and maintain relationships with internal asthma service providers. Develop systems to improve service integration and facilitate referrals among partners of the Bronx Asthma Program.
  • Analyze data collected from community surveys, listening sessions, and assessments to identify trends, disparities, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop evidence‑based recommendations to inform program improvements and policy development.
  • Utilize client management software to measure and track progress towards community partnership goals.
  • Work with the Research and Evaluation Team and other staff to conduct research, prepare and publish insights gleaned from capacity building and community engagement activities and approaches.
  • Prepare inter‑organizational agreements to facilitate quality improvement programming for clinical providers, self‑management support for patients, families, and integrated pest management service delivery. Identify state, federal, and private funding sources to address asthma prevention and control including asthma care.
  • Establish relationships with community partner organizations.
  • Conduct literature reviews to propose, develop and implement new community engagement strategies.
  • Facilitate community listening sessions to acquire community feedback on the Bronx Asthma Program.
  • Supervise staff conducting community surveys, listening sessions and assessments.
  • Provide technical assistance to service providers to strengthen asthma policies and practices.
  • Provide staff support to the South Bronx Asthma Partnership.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Represent the bureau at internal and external meetings.
  • Participate in public health emergency response as needed and support the agency in community engagement during an emergency. Perform other duties as required.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, tasks, and timelines
  • Proven track record of applying an equity lens to processes, planning and policies
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities
  • At least one year of program oversight experience, particularly related to chronic disease
  • Experience collaborating with community partners
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
