Overview
Plans, supervises and performs research relating to para physiological changes in the heart and skeletal muscles in consultation with the Research Director
Responsibilities- Prepares experimental findings for publication and presentation at conferences and for grant proposals.
- Teaches research personnel how to utilize the specialized electrophysiological equipment and computer software packages; provides clinical supervision for Research Assistant, Research Technician and Research Fellow.
- Performs in vivo monitoring of various systems in rats.
- Performs microdissections to isolate nerve muscle biopsies and hearts from rats.
- Utilizes the in vitro EMG chamber and monitors nerve action potential, muscle action potential and other responses to nerve and/or muscle stimulation in rats during fatigue and drug exposure.
- Prepares frozen sections of skeletal muscles and measures changes in amplitude and time course of the responses of heart and skeletal muscle using a specialized software package.
- Performs all statistical analysis of data using Sigmastat package and generates graphs representing numerical changes in the responses.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Checks that equipment is functioning properly; reports any problems or malfunctions to Director.
Education: Medical Degree or PhD in Biology with specialty field in Physiology.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in electrophysiological studies on function of heart and skeletal muscles.
Skills: Good oral and written communication skills. Skiled in the microdissections of tissue. Skilled in operation of computers and electrophysiological equipment. Knowledge of research grant preparation. Broad knowledge of scientific principles, biological structures and laboratory techniques.
Pay Range
USD $57,500.00 - USD $57,500.00 /Yr.
