    Summary/Objective

    Overseen by Assistant Vice President of Community Services, the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Service Specialist (PBIS) provides service to Participants who have significant behavioral difficulties that jeopardize their ability to remain in the community of choice due to inappropriate responses to events in their environment. The primary goal of the PBIS is to work with the participant to decrease the intensity or frequency of targeted behaviors, and to teach more socially appropriate behaviors.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Job Functions

    • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s behavior in the context of his/her medical diagnosis, abilities/disabilities and the environment which precipitates the behaviors
    • Create a detailed holistic behavioral treatment plan including a clear description of successive levels of intervention starting with the simplest and least intrusive
    • Coordinate arrangements for training informal supports and waiver and non-waiver service providers to effectively use the basic principles of the behavior plan
    • Complete regular assessment of the effectiveness of the plan and modifying the plan as needed
    • Perform an emergency intervention plan when there is the possibility of the participant becoming a threat to himself, herself or others

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Utilize electronic medical record to complete required documentation as required by regulation and within mandated time frames
    • Participate in external marketing and program related events and initiatives, as requested
    • Provide field based treatment in the community and individuals’ home as required
    • Adhere to the organizations Code of Ethics
    • Always communicate in a respectful manner with all people including the people we support, supervisors, other valued team members, and members of the community
    • Complete all required trainings and stay in compliance
    • Effectively communicate and support the organization’s mission, vision and values
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications

    Education, Work Experience, and Competencies

    • Master’s Degree in human services is the minimum job requirement. Master’s Degree can be in a field of Social Work, Psychology, and other related fields
    • Other fields/certifications that can be considered are Registered Occupational Therapist, Registered Physical Therapist, Licensed Speech –Language Pathologist, Registered Professional Nurse, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified Special Education Teacher, Licensed Mental Health PR Actioner, and other related fields
    • Minimum two years’ experience providing neurobehavioral services
    • Or two years as a Behavioral Specialist with successfully completed apprenticeship program offered by The Statewide Neuro Behavioral Resource Project
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment where flexibility, keeping others informed and anticipating needs is essential
    • Must be efficient, well organized, and have excellent communication skills
    • Must possess in depth knowledge of recruiting and general human resources policies, laws and guidelines. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced work environment
