The Clinical Dietitian Nutrition professional provides comprehensive nutrition care to patients of all ages across inpatient and critical care units, including ICU and PICU
. This role includes performing nutritional assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, recommending dietary modifications, and providing patient and family education. The dietitian collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Deliver comprehensive nutrition care to assigned patients, including assessing nutritional needs, creating and re-evaluating individualized care plans.
- Provide coverage across all inpatient units and participate in multidisciplinary rounds in designated clinics.
- Perform initial nutrition screenings and classify patients by nutrition risk level according to established care policies.
- Complete detailed nutrition assessments within required timelines (24–48 hours for high/moderate‑risk; within 7 days for low‑risk).
- Calculate nutritional requirements, including caloric, fluid, and protein needs
, using standardized formulas. - Recommend and initiate diet modifications, enteral formulas, and nutrition supplements in collaboration with physicians or NPs.
- Monitor and evaluate patients’ nutrition status through meal rounds, calorie counts, and ongoing reassessments
. - Coordinate outpatient and home‑care nutrition support services, ensuring timely supplement delivery and proper documentation.
- Refer patients to specialty services such as GI Nutrition, Social Services, Speech Therapy, or Integrative Medicine when indicated.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in compliance with hospital nutrition care standards.
- 2–4 years of professional experience as a Clinical Dietitian or in medical nutrition therapy.
- Proficient in English communication
, both written and verbal. - Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience providing oncology nutrition care or working in a hospital/acute care setting.
- Clinical nutrition assessment and care planning
- Strong communication and interdisciplinary teamwork
- Patient education and family counseling
- Experience with critical care (ICU/PICU) nutrition
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for complex diagnoses

- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nutrition or related field
- Required: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (Commission on Dietetic Registration)
- Required (NY only): Certified Dietitian Nutritionist within 12 months of hire
- Preferred: None specified
