Position Summary

Staff Occupational Therapist, Bellevue Hospital

Responsible for evaluating occupational therapy needs and implementing comprehensive, medically prescribed occupational treatment to assigned patients in a supervised program of rehabilitation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Initial assessment and evaluation of occupational therapy needs for specific patient populations. Review medical chart to ascertain important medical information and clarify referral/OT treatment orders if necessary for unfamiliar diagnosis. Select appropriate OT assessment tools and methods to accurately determine the patient’s status for developing an optimal treatment plan. Demonstrate effective clinical decision‑making and implement changes/adaptations to the OT treatment plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate continued proficiency in skills required to treat assigned patient population.
  • Adhere to all department procedures and policies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate appropriate professionalism during job performance.
  • Maintain a certain level of patient‑care productivity as indicated by individual unit procedures. Demonstrate the ability to provide expected patient contact as indicated by productivity reports and patient‑contact analysis.
  • Participate in clinical education of field‑work students and other professional educational endeavors. Teach and supervise assigned students in the appropriate occupational therapy techniques, skills, and procedures. Encourage positive learning experiences for career‑opportunity students and other non‑field‑work students.
  • Complete all required documentation for patient care and reimbursement. Complete and plan all required documentation in the medical chart as required by department guidelines and JACHO/CARF requirements. Clinical documentation is thorough and uses appropriate medical and clinical terminology.
  • Implement treatment plans and protocols according to current professional and health‑system standards. Establish achievable and appropriate treatment goals with patient and family. Consider a variety of validated treatment approaches and rationales for achieving patient goals. Select appropriate technical aids/assistive devices and correctly refer patients to other clinical services to achieve stated program/team treatment goals. Assess educational needs of patients, families, and implement a variety of methods for patient/family education and training during rehabilitation.

Position Specific Responsibilities
  • Work on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) by rotation and some public holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • New York State Occupational Therapy License or temporary permit.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Licenses
  • Occupational Therapist License – NYS.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical Doctorate.
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

& Pay Transparency

Salary range for this role: $58,500.00 – $78,000.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other compensation.
