Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Part Time)

Shrub Oak International School ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for autistic students in a family‑centric, supportive environment. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students across the spectrum, and our curriculum is based on the most advanced and successful evidence‑based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education.

Essential

Functions
  • Prescribe, direct, or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
  • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from the student, family members and/or other professionals.
  • Design, implement, oversee and manage individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.
  • Collaborate with Shrub Oak’s transdisciplinary team, including the Director of Clinical Services, Director of Health and Wellness, Director of Education, and Director of Campus Life, as well as other healthcare professionals as needed and required per Shrub Oak policies and practices to discuss treatment plans and progress as needed and required.
  • Analyze and evaluate patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental and/or physical disorders.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to determine effectiveness of treatments or therapies and approaches.
  • Meet with students to assess general physical, mental and emotional condition(s).
  • Advise or inform guardians, relatives, or significant others of student’s conditions or treatment.
  • Remain current of research, advances and related topics concerning mental, emotional, or behavioral states or disorders.
  • Prepare reports summarizing patient diagnostic or care activities.
  • Attend meetings, and serve on committees to promote, maintain and share learnings and progress in the field.
  • Handle all other additional responsibilities as needed and required.
Experience & Education Required
  • Must be a licensed PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) with a graduate degree in mental health nursing; a doctoral degree is preferred.
  • Active licenses in good standing required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in pediatric/adult psychiatry.
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely express ideas both orally and in writing to diverse clients, professionals, parents, and groups.
  • Professional and executive presence, capable of representing the school effectively when speaking to both large and small groups.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Proactive in recognizing issues or problems and selecting appropriate solutions, often quickly, in fast‑paced, changing circumstances.
  • Ability to thrive in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment while managing multiple demands and shifting priorities.
  • Computer proficiency with a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software, and the ability to learn to navigate internal database management software.
  • Experience in a boarding school environment, particularly with both domestic and international students.
  • Experience in special education or residential school settings, particularly with students requiring psychiatric support and stabilization.
  • Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in handling complex medical, emotional, and psychological situations with a holistic approach, aiming for sustained improvement, well‑being, and regulation.
Preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain solid relationships and work cross‑functionally with other disciplines and areas of the school, team player with excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making skills, and judgment.
  • Familiarity with evidence‑based psychiatric and behavioral interventions specific to autism spectrum disorders and co‑occurring conditions.
