Manhattan Per Diem Therapist – New Alternatives For Children, Inc. (NAC)
New Alternatives For Children, Inc. (NAC) is a nonprofit child welfare, health and social services agency that serves children with complex medical and behavioral health conditions and their families in New York City.
Location: 825 7th Avenue, New York, NY, 10019 (Service needed in Manhattan, New York)
Pay Rate: $60/hour
Position Type: Per‑diem
Department/Program: Children and Family Treatment Support Services
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive evaluation assessments to establish a diagnosis and identify service needs.
- Develop detailed treatment plans with child and family, and perform ongoing progress review.
- Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
- Provide crisis intervention services (in-person or telephone) with follow‑up.
- Provide intensive individual, family, relationship‑based and supportive counseling focused on problematic behavior.
- Offer crisis avoidance and management counseling to prevent or reduce active crises.
- Offer rehabilitative psychoeducation and strengths‑based service planning to minimize negative behavioral health symptoms.
- Ensure availability at least one weekend day or after‑school/evenings and maintain a consistent schedule approved by supervisor.
- Complete required documentation for Medicaid billing within prescribed time frames.
- Complete required and recommended trainings.
- Communicate regularly with NAC staff and respond to email/phone within 24 hours.
- Participate in supervision as scheduled.
- Hold an LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, or LMHC license and knowledge of trauma‑informed care.
- Have at least one year of experience in children’s mental health or a related area, working with children and families.
- Follow safety precautions needed to protect the child population.
- Willingness to work in clients’ homes and communities.
- Have quick and easy access to a computer and printer, and be proficient in internet, word processing, and email communication.
- Knowledge of and adherence to cultural competency guidelines.
- Child welfare experience.
- Strong communication with ACS, NAC, and community partners.
- Patience, compassion, and empathy for clients.
- Effective interpersonal skills for fostering healthy relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Good mediation and conflict resolution skills.
