Clinical. Compensation: $90,500 - $117,000, depending on experience and degree level.

Shrub Oak International School (Shrub Oak) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Located in northern Westchester County, Shrub Oak offers educational opportunities for autistic students in a family-centric, supportive environment. The curriculum is based on evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education.

Essential Functions

The Psychologist works collaboratively with education, clinical, and residential staff, as well as parents and students, to develop plans and strategies to improve students’ academic performance, mental health, and social development in accordance with ITEPs (Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Plan). Having access to confidential information, discretion, and independent judgment is required.

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments and reassessments of a student's psychological, behavioral, and emotional needs
  • Designs and develops treatment plans and interventions that meet the individualized needs of students
  • Provides expertise in behavioral science and mental health-related services through advisement and consultation by making evidence-based recommendations
  • Supervises (or is eligible to supervise) other mental health professionals and/or interns, develops clinically oriented groups and program supports, and creates, organizes, and leads relevant staff training
  • Utilizes a variety of treatment approaches that are safe, creative, and individualized to a particular student's needs
  • Provides therapy/counseling to individuals and groups using various evidence-based modalities, monitoring student progress
  • Provides supervision of staff and/or interns as needed and required
  • Proactively maintains open lines of communication with care providers, students, and family members to address student progress, development, and emergencies as needed
  • Supports the crisis team to minimize episodes of crisis and escalation, and manages crisis situations with integrity and safety for all involved
  • Identifies appropriate training for staff and programming for students, designs and coordinates training to enable growth and scale
  • Maintains appropriate records and reports as required
  • Participates in clinical activities to advance field knowledge and remains current with professional development
  • Participates, as needed, in community and professional education regarding clinical matters, life skills independence, and related areas

Requirements

Experience &

Education:

  • Master’s in clinical psychology, school psychology, or related field required;
    PhD or PsyD preferred
  • An active New York State License is preferred in good standing. License-eligible applicants may be considered
  • At least 2 years’ experience in conducting psychological assessments, evaluations, and interventions required; 3 or more years preferred
  • Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities is required
  • Experience supervising/training staff and designing training programs is preferred
  • Experience proactively identifying developmental or training programs for students, designing content, and delivering or coordinating implementation preferred
  • Special Education boarding school experience preferred
