Summary
Associate Medical Physicist is a junior level position who works under the supervision of a Senior Medical Physicist and the Director of Radiation Safety. The role involves performing radiation safety/quality assurance testing of diagnostic imaging equipment and assisting with the implementation of the radioactive materials program.
Job Responsibilities- Perform quality assurance testing of diagnostic X‑ray equipment, including:
- Radiographic
- Fluoroscopic
- Computed Tomographic (CBCT)
- Computed Radiographic
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Ultrasound Imaging
- Primary Diagnostic Monitors
- Occupational radiation exposure monitoring.
- RS/QA audits & meetings.
- Perform all radiation safety/quality assurance testing and report preparation within 2 weeks of the due date, and attend all departmental meetings.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements, standards and recommendations published by external agencies such as:
- New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Code Article 175 – Radiation Control)
- New York State Department of Health (Title 10 Part 16 NYCRR – Sanitary Code)
- New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (Title 6 Part 380 NYCRR – Environmental Code)
- US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations)
- US Department of Transportation (Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations)
- National Council on Radiation Protection & Measurements
- The Joint Commission
Additional responsibilities as required by the Director of Radiation Safety.
Minimum Qualifications- Master's degree from a program that is acceptable to the NYS Office of Professions
- 3 years experience related to Diagnostic Medical Physics
- NYS Limited Permit in Diagnostic Medical Physics
The salary range for this role is $ – $ annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range listed does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
