The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position SummaryThe Columbia University Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time Secretary B to provide administrative support and patient-facing services in a busy medical office. As the Columbia Neurology practice continues to grow, this position will play an integral role in supporting efficient front-office operations and delivering a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities- Answer telephone calls, take and route messages, and respond to routine inquiries.
- Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
- Obtain, file, and scan test results and other clinical documentation.
- Use Epic, the electronic medical record (EMR) system, to check patients in and out of the practice.
- Verify insurance coverage and collect applicable copayments.
- Support physicians and practice management with the day-to-day front-office operations of a busy clinical practice.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Requires two years of college or completion of secretarial school or equivalent business experience, plus a minimum of one or two years related experience.
- Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
- Experience working in a high-volume medical practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service and patient satisfaction.
- Proficiency with Epic or another electronic medical record system.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with practice managers, physicians, and other team members.
- Ability to learn and effectively use required systems following training.
- Typing proficiency of 55-60 words per minute.
