Bell Captain/Valet (The Athenaeum Hotel) – Seasonal Employment

Chautauqua Institution owns and operates the Chautauqua Hotel Company, a historic full‑service comprehensive hotel with 150 rooms. The Athenaeum Hotel houses the Heirloom Restaurant and Lobby Lounge. It operates from late April through October for conferences and events, and in full operation during the summer season from late June through late August.

Compensation

Starting at $18.00 per hour, up to $20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

Workday Responsibilities
  • Assist in training bell staff.
  • Create and modify valet procedures and tracking procedures.
  • Monitor the front circle and entrances to move traffic efficiently.
  • Ensure bell staff are punched in/out correctly and assign breaks.
  • Maintain a high standard of guest interaction and encourage the department to follow suit.
  • Ensure all bell staff wear the proper uniform and shoes.
  • Deliver luggage and valet cars as needed.
Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution offers a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees who refer a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90 days from the first physical date of work. For seasonal positions, the new candidate must remain employed for at least 30 days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season (last Sunday in August).

Schedule

Flexible schedules available full and part‑time during summer operations (June–August) and pre‑season/post‑season as needed. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Shifts range from 8 hours, starting 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., for 16–40 hours per week, depending on business needs.

No employer‑provided housing. Applicants should arrange independent housing or reside within commuting distance.
