The Talent Management Practices & Employee Listening team plays a critical role in driving employee engagement and maximizing employee potential. The team designs and executes core, enterprise-wide talent management practices including performance management, succession planning, executive promotions and more, all focused on strengthening our leadership pipeline and advancing our talent strategy. The team also leads a comprehensive employee listening program to ensure we are actively responding to feedback, delivering our employee value proposition, and activating key moments that matter.
We partner closely with Leaders, HR Business Partners, and HR Centers of Excellence to get input on, build, and continuously enhance the programs that drive a high-performing culture and enable all employees to thrive.
The Talent & Performance Lead is the enterprise owner of New York Life's core talent management processes and is a key architect of how talent is evaluated, developed, and differentiated. This role enhances the end-to-end talent experience to strengthen accountability, accelerate growth, and improve clarity for managers and employees. As a strong change leader, you will modernize succession planning, talent reviews, the IMPACT performance management program, and executive promotions to ensure best practice, fairness, strong governance, and a more intuitive experience for leaders and HR partners.
You will work closely with stakeholders to ensure new processes and tools land successfully and deliver maximum business value. Given the team's focus on innovation, you will also identify and implement AI-enabled solutions that improve usability, increase adoption, and generate deeper talent insights. This role is ideal for a builder/operator/strategist energized by creating systems and processes that scale.
Lead and Evolve Performance Management
- Own and continuously enhance the company's IMPACT performance management program (purpose, expectations, tools, workflows, etc.) to create a simpler, clearer, and more effective experience for managers and employees.
- Modernize performance assessment through structured criteria, observable behaviors, continuous feedback, and strong governance to ensure fairness, consistency, and quality conversations.
- Redesign frameworks, tools, facilitation guides, and readiness definitions to strengthen the accuracy and usability of talent and succession decisions.
- Introduce modern assessment practices, benchmarks, and AI-supported insights that elevate the leader and HRBP experience.
- Implement AI-powered and data-driven solutions that simplify workflow, generate insights, improve accuracy, and seamlessly integrate talent processes.
- Partner with HR Technology to ensure systems, dashboards, and reporting provide leaders with clear visibility into trends, hotspots, and talent outcomes.
- Develop and execute change management strategies that prepare and support leaders, HRBPs, and employees in adopting new approaches and tools.
- Ensure strong enterprise alignment by partnering across HR COEs and creating clear, compelling executive briefing materials.
- Manage complex, multi-workstream efforts with discipline, organization, and strong operational planning.
- Deliver high-quality, accurate materials under tight timelines, while contributing to broader talent management priorities including skills strategy, workforce planning, career development, and employee experience.
Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Talent Management Certification preferred.
- Deep experience leading performance management, talent review and/or succession planning design and delivery in a complex, progressive organization.
- Strong understanding of best/next practices, with the ability to translate external trends and research into practical, scalable solutions.
- Exceptional project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, foresee risks, and maintain momentum.
