Retirement Benefits Manager – 1199
SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds
We’re seeking a strategic and hands‑on Benefits Manager to lead the administration and compliance of employee benefits programs—especially employer‑sponsored retirement savings plans like 401(k). This role is ideal for a seasoned HR professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and is passionate about supporting employees through thoughtful benefits design and delivery.
Responsibilities- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the 401(k) plan, including enrollment, contributions, and distributions.
- Facilitate committee meetings and coordinate with third‑party administrators to ensure compliance with ERISA and IRS regulations.
- Administer leave programs—Disability, FMLA, Paid Family Leave, Workers’ Comp, and Personal LOA—guaranteeing legal and policy compliance and guiding managers through procedures.
- Lead the interactive process for ADA accommodations, coordinating documentation and implementation of approved accommodations.
- Serve as a trusted resource for benefits‑related questions and issue resolution, communicating clearly, empathetically, and effectively to employees and managers.
- Partner with Payroll to ensure accurate deductions and data synchronization, conducting regular audits and tracking metrics to identify trends and risks.
- Stay current on federal and state regulations—including ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, and EEO—and perform special projects and assignments as directed by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience) with a minimum of five years of HR experience, including policy and procedure development and interpretation.
- Experience supervising professional staff and developing, interpreting, and implementing policy and procedures.
- Intermediate skill level in MS Word and Excel; knowledge of HR Information Systems.
- Working knowledge of federal and state labor laws and regulations regarding FMLA, ADA, EEO, and retirement plan regulations (IRS).
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with internal and external professionals.
- HR experience in a union environment preferred.
