Professional School Executive Chief Diversity Officer/ Assistant Administrator (Extended and Revised) POSITION DETAILS

The City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (SPH) and School of Professional Studies (SPS) are seeking a Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). The CDO will lead the Schools’ Office of Diversity and Compliance and serve as the Title IX Coordinator and the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Coordinator.

Reporting to the SPH and SPS Deans and in collaboration with the campus’ Legal Counsel and Labor Designee, Offices of Human Resources, Academic and Student Affairs; and the CUNY Office of the General Counsel (OGC) and Center for Inclusive Excellence and Belonging (CIEB), the CDO is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of programmatic, training and compliance activities in accordance with federal, state, local and University policies and initiatives, while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and integrity with students, faculty, and staff.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and presenting training programs and disseminating information related to diversity, equal opportunity, and compliance at the schools.
  • Maintaining current knowledge and materials related to laws, rules, regulations, and best practices for advancing equal opportunity and diversity.
  • In collaboration with the Offices of Human Resources, overseeing employee recruitment and search processes, including but not limited to ensuring recruitment outreach, reviewing search process documents, and monitoring employee selection and hiring processes to ensure compliance with governmental and University policies.
  • Conducting investigations of complaints asserted under Title IV, VI, VII and IX and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA, in accordance with applicable federal, state, local and University policies.
  • Overseeing the implementation and development of initiatives, programs, and events designed to foster a climate that encourages respect for diversity amongst students, faculty, and staff, including working with relevant campus-based student, faculty, and staff committees.
  • Preparing required memoranda and reports, working closely with CUNY Offices and external administrative agencies, as necessary on compliance audits and initiatives.
  • Serving as campus representative and liaison to the relevant CUNY Offices.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Deans or designees.
QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive familiarity with faculty, student and staff issues and culture in a higher education environment.
  • A JD degree with experience in the field of employment law.
  • Admission to the New York State bar.
  • Experience conducting investigations in the equal opportunity and diversity arenas.
  • Knowledge of and experience in complying with the requirements of relevant city, state and federal statutes related to Title IV, VI, VII and IX and Section 504 and ADA.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a higher education institution in a similar role, including but not limited to equal opportunity compliance and investigations.
  • Experience working in a unionized and an online higher education environment.
  • Excellent diplomatic, interpersonal, analytical, organizational and oral/written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a high-level administrative team and ability to interact with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Sharepoint).
  • Familiarity with investigative/case management software.
  • Training as a trauma informed investigator.
