The Director of Total Rewards is responsible for the accurate administration of payroll and employee benefits programs, leveraging Workday as the system of record. This role serves as a subject matter expert for payroll operations, benefits administration, and retirement programs, ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and a high-quality employee experience.
Key Responsibilities- Own end-to-end payroll processing in Workday, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain payroll configurations including earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and multi-state payroll requirements within Workday.
- Perform payroll audits, reconciliations, variance analysis, and resolve discrepancies in partnership with Finance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, issue resolution, and system troubleshooting.
- Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and leave programs.
- Manage benefits enrollments, life events, open enrollment, and vendor integrations, ensuring accurate deductions and data integrity between payroll and benefits.
- Own administration and ongoing management of the 401(k) retirement plan, including vendor coordination, payroll feeds, compliance testing, and employee inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and other applicable payroll and benefits regulations.
- Act as a Workday payroll and benefits subject matter expert, supporting system configuration, upgrades, reporting, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and deliver standard and ad hoc payroll, benefits, and total rewards reporting for HR and Finance stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Total Rewards, Payroll, and Benefits administration.
- Extensive hands‑on experience processing payroll using Workday.
- Demonstrated experience administering employee benefits and retirement programs.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and benefits compliance.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- CPP or CEBS certification.
