Overview

Cleary Gottlieb is a pioneer in globalizing the legal profession. We have fourteen offices in major financial centers around the world, but we operate as a single, integrated global partnership and not a U.S. firm with a network of overseas locations. The firm employs approximately 1,100 lawyers from more than fifty countries.

Since 1946 our lawyers and staff have worked across practices, industries, jurisdictions, and continents to provide clients with simple, actionable approaches to their most complex legal and business challenges, whether domestic or international. We support every client relationship with intellectual agility, commercial acumen, and a human touch.

The HRIS Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end administration, configuration, and strategic enhancement of the firm’s Workday Human Resources Information System. Serving as both a technical and functional expert, this role ensures the accuracy and confidentiality of HR data, supports legal industry–specific HR processes, and delivers insights that help the firm advance its people strategy. The analyst collaborates closely with Human Resources, IT, and other administrative departments to implement Workday enhancements, resolve issues, and optimize the platform in alignment with the firm’s values and legal industry standards.

This position reports to the Senior HRIS Manager and is a member of the Global IT Department.

Responsibilities

  • Audits human capital data to maintain and improve overall integrity of system data.
  • Partner with HR, IT, and Payroll to implement new Workday modules, system upgrades, and integrations with other firm-specific platforms and third‑party vendors.
  • Document Workday-specific processes, workflows, and policies, ensuring clear communication and adherence to best practices.
  • Monitors technology trends for Workday, and leverages user communities to maintain and expand knowledge base to enhance Workday capabilities.
  • Conduct regular audits within Workday to maintain data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with privacy laws and firm policies.
  • Develop and deliver advanced training, best‑practice guidance, and process optimization recommendations to HR and business users.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of additional Workday tools, modules, or third‑party integrations relevant to law firm operations.
  • Evaluate Workday releases and HR technology trends, proactively recommending enhancements, deprecations, or architectural changes aligned with firm strategy.
  • Creates test plans for stakeholder testing, as well as the validation of functionality.
  • Configures and administers security, including new user set up.
  • Collaborates with IT, Payroll, Finance, and other groups on HRIS/data related matters.
  • Acts as second level of support for end‑user issues; resolve or escalate as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience supporting Workday within an HR or IT function, ideally in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Hands‑on configuration experience with Workday Core HCM and modules such as Benefits, Talent, Compensation, Absence, and Advanced Reporting.
