. Gunderson Dettmer has an opening for a Network Engineer in our Boston or New York office. The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network infrastructure, including hardware and software, to ensure smooth data communication within the firm by analyzing network performance, identifying issues, and implementing solutions to optimize connectivity and security across various devices and networks.
- Plan and design network layouts, including LANs, WANs, and wireless networks to meet firm requirements.
- Install and configure network equipment like routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Regularly monitor network performance, identify potential issues, and troubleshoot network problems.
- Implement network security measures to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Analyze network traffic and implement strategies to improve network speed and efficiency.
- Forecast future network needs and plan for capacity upgrades.
- Work with network equipment vendors to resolve technical issues and participate in negotiating contracts.
- Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelors' degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of five years’ related experience in network infrastructure management.
- Experience working in an AmLaw 200 or larger law firm desired.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols like TCP/IP, subnetting, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and network security concepts.
- Familiarity with network hardware from various vendors
- Excellent analytical and technical skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic in order to conduct detailed analysis, including testing and installation.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- Analyzing network data to identify patterns and potential problems.
- Effectively identifying and implementing solutions to network challenges.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated effective critical thinking and decision-making skills with a proven track record of completing tasks and/or projects within budget and on schedule.
- Superior organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.
- Experience with project management.
- Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Relevant industry standard certifications or equivalent work experience.
- Member of professional organizations (such as ILTA).
The expected starting salary for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
