Mainframe Support Engineer

The Mainframe Support Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and support of critical mainframe environments.

This role ensures system availability, resolves incidents, and collaborates with development, operations, and business teams to maintain smooth batch and transactional processes.

• Monitor daily batch schedules using Control-M and resolve scheduling failures.
• Triage and resolve production incidents in z/OS, CICS, and DB2 environments.
• Analyze system performance and capacity using SDSF and related tools.
• Execute JCL, manage datasets and tapes, and apply OS/Subsystem maintenance.
• Maintain and update run-books, SOPs, and support documentation.
• Collaborate with application teams to diagnose defects, implement workarounds, and coordinate fixes.
• Participate in on‑call rotation for 24x7 support, including weekends and holidays.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement improvements to reduce repeat incidents.
• Work with security, audit, and compliance teams to enforce policies and complete health checks.
• Mentor junior support staff and contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience supporting mainframe platforms (z/OS).
• Proficiency in:
• JCL, TSO/ISPF, REXX or CLIST scripting
• COBOL, DB2 Stored Procedures
• DB2 data management
• SDSF for monitoring and diagnostics
• Experience with Git for change management.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on‑call support rotation.

• Experience with automation and Dev Ops practices on z/OS (e.g., Ansible).
• Familiarity with mainframe modernization or integration technologies (e.g., MQ, Java on z/OS).
• Knowledge of ITIL incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Prior experience in the financial services industry.
