Position SummaryThe Deployment Engineer QA-VoIP is responsible for supporting the engineering and deployment of the New York City Public Schools overall network infrastructure. This includes planning, configuration, and engineering of school and administrative site networks and support of integration and implementation services. The incumbent supports planning, coordination, and integration of new technologies in schools, enabling post‑deployment monitoring and transition to operational support services across the 1,600 schools.
The engineer leads the development of integration, implementation, and support documentation, working with DIIT technology teams and field integrators to define and document deployment processes. The engineer provides highly technical expertise across local and wide area network services technologies, IP telephony, and Voice Over IP (VoIP) systems. The role ensures reliable and efficient operation of voice communications, collaborating with other IT teams to integrate voice services with existing network infrastructure and applications.
The engineer supports daily operational and project activities.

- Infrastructure teams (Technology Innovation, Hosting, Network Operations Center, network integrators, NYCPS deployment network engineers, and other support teams)
- Compliance with network standards for all technology solutions supporting NYCPS schools and administrative offices
- Plan, design, configure, install, implement, test, and support integrations of enterprise networks and secure IP telephony and VoIP solutions based on business requirements.
- Establish deployment standards, processes, and best practices to ensure high‑quality deliverables and documentation in accordance with NYCPS infrastructure standards.
- Lead creation of configuration deployment procedures and train integration and field engineers on various networking configurations.
- Collaborate with project managers during the deployment phase, documenting installation, customization, and integration efforts; support project status and day‑to‑day reporting.
- Develop and maintain documentation of network diagrams, system configurations, and operational procedures related to voice infrastructure.
- Attend meetings and contribute to decision‑making as a trusted advisor to senior management and policy makers.
- Install, configure, and upgrade Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express and similar platforms (e.g., Avaya Aura, Microsoft Teams Phone System, Asterisk).
- Deploy and configure VoIP gateways, Session Border Controllers, IP phones, and softphones.
- Implement dial plans, call routing, voicemail, auto‑attendants, and other voice features.
- Integrate voice systems with CRMs, calendaring systems, and presence solutions.
- Enable monitoring of IP telephony performance and health.
- Assist in transition of deployed systems to the Network Operations Centers.
- Provide troubleshooting and problem resolution for voice issues, including call quality, connectivity, and feature functionality.
- Collaborate with carriers and vendors to resolve external connectivity issues.
- Support school network integrations, reviewing work plans for compliance with DIIT standards.
- Deploy school network infrastructure across WAN, LAN, WLAN, security, web filtering, BMS, voice, QoS, and other technologies.
- Work with the NOC inventory collection engine to review, centralize, and manage network devices and configurations.
- Diagnose network malfunctions and provide remote support for deployment‑related problems.
- Conduct QA functions by reviewing and approving work plan submissions from vendors for hardware and software installations.
