Etsy’s Data Enablement department builds systems, infrastructure, and data pipelines for collecting, storing, and analyzing huge data sets in batch and streaming contexts. As a member of the Core Data team, you’ll work on pipelines that transform Etsy’s clickstream data into core datasets used by thousands of downstream jobs. You’ll help build the transform layer to integrate low-latency stream processing into batch jobs, design new methods and tooling for ensuring data validity and quality, and write robust pipelines in Spark, Big Query SQL, and Kafka Streams.

The team works in Scala, Python, Java, SQL, and tools such as Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Looker, Dataproc, and Big Query. The position is based in the U.S.; preferred candidates near Brooklyn or the San Francisco Bay Area will be considered first, with in‑office attendance 1–2 times per week as needed.

This full-time role includes equity, an annual performance bonus, and benefits as part of the total rewards package.

• Responsible for daily delivery of core datasets, powering hundreds of critical analytics jobs.
• Continuously improve data services and extract value from existing sources by providing scalable access and transformations.
• Ensure health and timely delivery of ETL pipelines and data models that power analytics and machine-learning data.
• Build and maintain internal tools for monitoring and validating high-quality data.

• Improve pipelines that trace how buyers arrived at Etsy and their experience on the site and app.
• Build and maintain streaming datasets that power search, ads, and recommendation systems.
• Support evolving bot-filtering rules to ensure data quality.
• Partner with product engineering teams to guarantee high-quality, consistent data.
• Maintain and update core datasets that are reusable for analytics, product, and engineering partners.
• Adapt to evolving tasks and responsibilities as the team’s needs change.

• Familiarity with low-latency and batch processing, event-based data systems, stream processing (Kafka Streams, Spark, Dataflow), or SQL for data exploration.
• Strong communication skills—software engineering is as much coding as it is people.
• Generous mentorship and learning attitude toward other engineers.
• Ability to tackle unconstrained problems and know when to seek help.
• Flexibility with languages and tools, and a willingness to learn whatever is necessary.
