L2 Network Engineer - Travel Required

This role is a 3‑month temp‑to‑perm position with NTT DATA, Inc., focusing on L2 Network Engineering and field services. The position requires travel to NYC, DC, Newark, and Philadelphia, with a pay rate of $45/hour on a W2 basis.

W2 ONLY – NO STEM OPT – NOT ELIGIBLE FOR C2C, 1099, Agencies or Vendors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rack and stack of network devices, servers, and firewalls.
  • Cable devices, including copper, fiber (single and multi‑mode), and SFPs; work with patch panels, port maps, and cabling best practices.
  • Install, terminate, and test Ethernet and fiber optic cables.
  • Manage cable infrastructure to ensure organized and efficient cabling.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues related to cabling.
  • Upgrade OS versions on network devices from vendors such as Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5, and Fortinet.
  • Apply network configurations to devices from various vendors.
  • Gain console access to network devices for configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Work with common network protocols and tools (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, spanning tree, VLANs, QoS) to diagnose and resolve network issues.
  • Respond to escalated client requests and, if necessary, forward unresolved or complex problems to the appropriate third parties.
  • Assist with documentation of standard operating procedures for installations and fixes.
  • Take ownership of assigned work and issues that may arise.
  • Collaborate with client IT teams, onsite and remotely, to implement network changes and upgrades.
  • Create, maintain, and update network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of network projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to travel 50‑75% of the time; must live near a major airport.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Work at heights up to 12 feet using ladders and/or up to 40 feet with scissor lifts, as needed.
  • Perform tasks across various environments, including data centers, office buildings, and construction sites.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in network technologies.
  • Perform any other related tasks as required.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Seasoned understanding of technical design and business principles.
  • Strong project execution skills demonstrated in installations and other assignments.
  • Excellent customer engagement skills.
  • Relevant domain specialist knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Experience conducting LAN and network surveys.
  • Client‑focused and proactive problem‑solving approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good knowledge of network protocols, routing, and switching.
  • Experience with cable testing tools and equipment.
  • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Familiarity with network security principles and best practices.
  • Familiarity with network devices and their connectivity requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and schematics.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in network engineering, preferably in field services roles.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA or equivalent are preferred.
  • Existing Scissor Lift and Fall certifications are preferred; willingness to obtain and hold certifications at NTT expense is required.
