Engineering Lead / Technical Lead (Contract)

Industry: Financial Services (Private Equity / Asset Management / Wealth Management)

Location: New York – Hybrid (3–4 days onsite)

We are seeking a hands‑on Engineering Lead / Tech Lead to drive the technical delivery of a strategic internal platform within the financial services sector
. This role supports complex private equity and asset management workflows, requiring strong leadership combined with deep technical expertise. You will lead rapid design‑and‑build sprints, delivering scalable dashboards and workflows across asset classes, while guiding a globally distributed engineering team and working closely with product, design, and senior stakeholders. This is a hybrid contract role based in New York.

• Lead the design and development of modular micro‑applications using React (non‑negotiable)
• Architect, build, and own backend services using Python (non‑negotiable) with Node.js
• Design and implement AWS serverless and containerised services (Lambda, Fargate)
• Translate complex financial and business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices across code quality, testing, and deployment
• Provide technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship to a distributed engineering team
• Identify and build reusable frontend and backend components
• Maintain delivery velocity while ensuring secure, resilient infrastructure
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for internal and external engineering stakeholders

• 6+ years of full‑stack engineering experience
• Strong, hands‑on experience with React (required)
• Strong, hands‑on experience with Python (required)
• Experience with Node.js
• Proven experience leading technical delivery across distributed teams
• Solid experience with AWS serverless architectures (Lambda, Fargate, API Gateway)
• Experience working with containerised environments and CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement capability

Candidates without solid React and Python experience will not be considered.

Financial services domain experience is essential.

• Exposure to design systems or reusable component libraries
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, SSO, JWT authentication, and enterprise authorization models

• Valid US work authorisation must be in place at the start of the engagement
• Suitable visa types include H1B, EAD, or OPT
• This is a contract role with no benefits
