Position: PROGRAMMER ANALYST

PROGRAMMER ANALYST – NYC Department of Social Services

Apply for the COMPUTER ASSOCIATE (SOFTWARE) I role, functioning as a Programmer Analyst. Eligibility requires permanent placement in the Computer Associate (Software) title.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) comprises the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). Information Technology Services (ITS) supports DSS by developing and maintaining technology infrastructure and applications across HRA and DHS.

Responsibilities
  • Manage hardware and software design and implementation for Medicaid critical Windows infrastructure, including complex platforms such as WMS/UNIX/Windows 10.
  • Perform advanced technical diagnostics for hardware and software to ensure efficient Enterprise Network operation.
  • Monitor network performance, resolve issues promptly, and maintain cross‑platform connectivity for Enterprise Network computer complexes and associated Federal, State, City, and Vendor networks.
  • Contribute to technical recommendations for strategic planning, system consolidation, conversion, acquisition, and infrastructure growth. Provide instruction and demonstrations on the proper, efficient use and installation of complex application software.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent) plus 24 semester credits, and one year of full‑time software experience in systems development, analysis, programming, database administration, or related areas.
  • High‑school diploma (or equivalent) plus five years of full‑time software experience as described above.
  • Equivalency:
    College education may substitute for up to two years of required experience; 60 semester credits equate to one year of experience. Additional credits or a 625‑hour programming certificate may substitute for one year of experience. All candidates must have at least a four‑year high‑school diploma and one year of satisfactory experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS (10, 11), browsers, and Microsoft 365 Office (One Drive, Teams, Visio, Project).
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, remote access tools (RDP, Dameware, Team Viewer), LAN, and wireless network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Apple OS X, Service Now, and hardware components for HP, Dell, and Lexmark.
  • Hands‑on hardware troubleshooting, team collaboration, and independent work capability.
