Storage Engineer (File and Block)

- The Storage Engineer will be responsible for managing block storage and a fibre channel SAN (Storage Area Network).
- Serve as the primary administrator for Dell Power Scale and ECS storage systems. This includes cluster administration, monitoring system health, and ensuring optimal performance and availability.
- Manage and implement data protection strategies, including snapshots, replication using tools like SyncIQ, and disaster recovery planning and testing for both Power Scale and ECS.
- Plan and execute storage product upgrades, firmware updates, and patching to maintain system security and functionality.
- Create, configure, and manage file shares, quotas, access zones, and S3 buckets according to company policies and business needs.
- Conduct regular capacity and performance monitoring. Analyze workload requirements and provide proactive suggestions for performance tuning and capacity remediation.
- Isolate and troubleshoot complex storage incidents, resolve severity issues, and perform root cause analysis for recurring problems.
- Configure and manage access control lists (ACLs), permissions, and security settings on both platforms. Implement security hardening best practices.
- Manage data migration activities, including migrating data between storage platforms or tiering data from Power Scale to ECS for cost optimization.
- Utilize scripting (e.g., Python, Power Shell) to automate routine tasks and streamline storage administration processes.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for storage runbooks, knowledge base articles, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Act as a point of contact for Dell Technologies support, opening and managing service requests as needed.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Deep knowledge of Power Scale’s OneFS, including the Job Engine, cluster administration, Cloud Pools and security features.
- Experience with Dell ECS for object storage, including S3 protocol, bucket policies, and user management.
- Familiarity with storage networking concepts, including NFS, SMB, and S3 protocols.
- Familiarity with Superna Eyeglass, including Ransomware Defender.
- Familiarity with Net App AFF/FAS clusters (Snap Mirror, Flexclones, Fabric Pool, etc.) running OnTap 9.12+ is a plus.
- Experience with Dell management tools such as Insight
IQ, SCG, and Cloud
IQ. - Working knowledge of Cloud Soda or Komprise for data analytics and data management.
- Understanding of public cloud storage services (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) and their integration with tools like Cloud Pools, Komprise and Cloud Soda.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills for documentation, team collaboration, and interaction with vendor support.
- 5+ years’ experience with medium-to-large storage environments as Storage Administrator.
- Relevant Dell Technologies certifications.
- Experience with in a healthcare environment is preferred.
Salary range: $90,000–$105,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
