The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The Office of Curb Management within the Division of Transportation Planning & Management is responsible for curb policies across the city’s 6,300 miles of streets and roughly 3 million curbside parking spaces, with a focus on improving safety, reducing double parking and better managing competing demands from loading zones and deliveries to charging infrastructure and waste containerization to support safer, more efficient streets across the city.

The Office of Curb Management is seeking a candidate to fill the role of Parking Data Analyst within that unit. In this role, the selected candidate will be charged with developing and implementing a citywide data collection program to examine curbside activity metrics in select neighborhoods throughout the city.

As Parking Data Analyst, the candidate will be responsible for all steps for the citywide data collection program including:
- Data collection planning
The candidate will work with the DOT Parking Planning and Policy team to develop the data collection plan including the neighborhoods that will be covered in the program, the metrics to collect, the methodology, and any consultant work and contracting that may be involved.
- Data collection
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the actual data collection over the course of the year and managing the consultant relationship. The collection methodology will likely include data collection through timelapse cameras, manual occupancy counts, and/or license plate surveys across ten to twelve neighborhoods in New York City.
- Data processing
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the processing of the data to ensure the capture of appropriate metrics. This may include overseeing consultant processing of timelapse photos, overseeing spreadsheet/data analysis in Microsoft Excel and similar databases, and ensuring collected data is clean and mappable.
- Data reporting
The candidate will be responsible for writing periodic reports on the status of the data collection effort including annual reports. This will include interpreting the data collection to communicate to a both a technical and general audience, writing reports, generating charts, creating maps, and presenting to DOT leadership.

The candidate should have a solid foundation of experience in transportation planning and data collection of parking and transportation metrics. The candidate should be comfortable with and proficient in creating reports and presentations that distill complex information for both technical and non-technical audiences. The candidate should have strong experience using data analysis tools like Microsoft Excel, R, and ArcGIS. The Analyst will have latitude for independent judgement and will be relied upon to keep the Data Collection program on track, organized, and efficient.

The successful candidate will also participate in the general strategic planning/problem-solving sessions and assist in the development and deployment of new technologies, programs, processes, and other strategies. The candidate may also be asked to support special initiatives, projects and other duties assigned to the Unit.
