As a Property Underwriting Associate, you will assess risk, structure policies, collaborate with internal and external partners, and manage a portfolio of business.

In the Property Associate program, you’ll be trained to assess risk and make informed decisions that help protect individuals and businesses. This is a great opportunity for 2026 graduates or anyone transitioning into insurance who enjoy analytical thinking, problem-solving, and working with data.

You’ll receive comprehensive training in underwriting principles, insurance regulations, and industry tools. You will work alongside experienced underwriters and mentors who will support your development every step of the way.

The BHSI Associate program offers ongoing training focused on P&C insurance fundamentals and professional development. Our program provides a clear path for growth, with opportunities to specialize in different lines of business, take on more complex cases, and eventually move into senior underwriting or managerial roles.

• Risk Assessment:
  Analyze new and renewal submissions to determine risk acceptability, coverage terms, and pricing
• Underwriting Decisions:
  Make informed underwriting decisions in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite
• Portfolio Management:
  Maintain a profitable book of business by balancing growth and risk selection
• Broker Relations:
  Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to drive new business opportunities
• Policy Development:
  Draft and modify policy terms and endorsements to tailor coverage to specific risks
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  
  Work closely with loss control, claims, actuarial, and legal teams to assess and manage risk
• Market Analysis:
  Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity
• Documentation:
  Ensure accurate and timely documentation of underwriting decisions and communications

• Interest in Insurance, underwriting, market trends or pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Finance, Risk Management)
• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM) are a plus

The base salary range for this position in New York is $75,000.00, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
