Assistant Town Attorney
Overview
Assistant Town Attorney at The annual salary is $85,000-$105,000 for a 40-hour work week and is commensurate with experience.
The Town of East Hampton is seeking applications to join our Legal Team. This role supports local legislation aligned with the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, and works on projects promoting green living, alternative transportation, and public-private initiatives in local economy sectors including farming, fishing, the arts, and clean technology. It also contributes to efforts around affordable housing and helping ensure East Hampton remains a welcoming and diverse community.
Responsibilities- Drafting legislation, resolutions, contracts, agreements, leases, and licenses for the Town Attorney’s approval
- Reviewing documents prepared by other agencies and affiliated parties, and interacting with various other agencies on a wide variety of matters
- Representing the Town in litigation
- Performing legal research on issues including municipal law, contracts, civil litigation, property and land use
- Responding to FOIL requests and issues related to Open Meetings Law
The Assistant Town Attorney may be assigned to counsel at Board meetings and attendance at occasional night meetings may be required.
Qualifications- Possession of a New York State license to practice law before the Bar of the State of New York is required
- Governmental/municipal experience is a plus
