We seek full-time Litigation Paralegals with fluent or native Spanish language skills to provide broad, responsive, and efficient support to our litigation/disputes practice area. Litigation Paralegals work and gain experience on a wide variety of matters, including, but not limited to, securities litigation, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) litigation, sovereign litigation/arbitration, antitrust, bankruptcy, white-collar defense and investigations, intellectual property and general commercial disputes, as well as numerous pro bono cases.
These practice areas provide exposure to various federal, state, governmental and international agencies. The Litigation Paralegals are invaluable members of our teams, assisting with challenging, newsworthy, and precedent-setting matters.
Cleary Gottlieb offers an excellent professional and educational experience and provides opportunities to utilize language skills. A Litigation Paralegal will obtain transferable skills that can be applied in law school or any organization.
ResponsibilitiesLitigation Paralegals will assist with all aspects of client and case support on a variety of innovative, complex, and often highly visible matters. They will work closely with and under the direction of partners, associates, and senior paralegals, and under the general supervision of the Litigation Paralegal Manager. Successful candidates will have superior organizational and time management skills, effective problem-solving skills, a positive and professional demeanor, the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels, and a strong client service focus.
Common tasks that Litigation Paralegals perform include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with all aspects of document management, including timely and accurate maintenance of case files pursuant to the firm’s document retention policy
- Supporting lawyers with preparation of court pleadings and filings, including, but not limited to, proofreading, cite-checking, blue booking, and shepardizing documents
- Collaborating with Discovery Group lawyers on all aspects of discovery and trial preparation, including, but not limited to, coding documents; creating and maintaining document databases; creating and maintaining document logs; document production; deposition management and support; preparing witness binders, trial exhibits, and trial notebooks
- Facilitating and providing on-site support for depositions, hearings, and trials
- Performing Lexis, Westlaw, internet, factual research, and site visits
- Translating Spanish language documents with accuracy and serving as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking clients, witnesses, and lawyers
- Reviewing and analyzing Spanish language documents and correspondence to identify relevant information for case strategy
- Bachelor’s degree with strong academic background (minimum 3.3 GPA)
- Fluent or native proficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading, writing, and listening)
- Demonstrated ability to translate documents between Spanish and English with accuracy
- Interest in the field of law
- Proactive approach and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work effectively on their own initiative and in collaboration with others
- Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
