Salary & Benefits
- Entry‑level prosecutors start at approximately $85,000.

Training
Newly hired Assistants undergo a rigorous training program that blends hands‑on experience, CLE courses, mentorship, second‑seat opportunities with senior prosecutors, and specialized off‑site training hosted by the National District Attorneys Association’s National Advocacy Center and the New York State District Attorneys Association’s Prosecutor’s Training Institute.
Career Path & Responsibilities
Entry‑level ADAs rotate through the Intake and Discovery Compliance Bureau, the District Court Bureau, and the East End Bureau, prosecuting misdemeanor crimes and gaining investigative and trial experience. With advancement, ADAs are promoted to the Domestic Violence Unit (both misdemeanor and felony offenses), then to the Grand Jury Unit (presenting felony cases, handling pre‑indictment dispositions, and felony arraignments), and later to senior bureaus within the Trial Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Special Investigations Division, developing specialized skills in criminal investigation and prosecution.
Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship (as required by New York Public Officers Law § 3).
- Graduated from a law school prior to the first day of employment.
- Sat the New York State Bar exam prior to the first day of employment.
- Sat the MPRE prior to the first day of employment.
- Sat the NYLE prior to the first day of employment.
- Commitment to at least three years of employment at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
- Demonstrated interest in public service and criminal law.
