OKX’s Legal team provides legal advice and guidance to the company across all coverage areas and geographic locations. Supports business growth and development by working with all teams within the company to help them achieve their goals. We are a high-functioning, collaborative and fast-paced group of lawyers who enjoy the cutting‑edge nature of our work and our industry. Our US Legal team is the primary legal partner to OKX's US business, advising on a broad range of topics including regulatory strategy, regulatory licensing, product launches, strategic partnerships and corporate matters.
The US Legal team works cross‑functionally with leaders across the company to help build and scale an innovative and compliant US platform.
This is an essential role at one of the fastest-growing global cryptocurrency exchanges based in San Jose, CA. The Deputy General Counsel will report directly to OKX’s Head of Legal for the US, and play a central role in shaping OKX's regulatory and legal strategy in the US. You'll work at the intersection of law, regulations, and product innovation – driving complex licensing initiatives, advising senior stakeholders and helping the business navigate an evolving regulatory landscape.
This role is ideal for a hands‑on legal leader with strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and decision‑making skills, and the ability and desire to work with a top‑notch legal team. The right candidate is not afraid to jump into novel and complex matters, and is willing to roll up their sleeves and work effectively under time pressure. You’ll Be Doing
- Lead US regulatory licensing efforts to support the launch of new and innovative products and services.
- Advise the US business on laws and regulations applicable to the crypto industry to support product launches and key strategic initiatives.
- Help shape and execute OKX's US regulatory strategy.
- Draft regulatory licensing application materials in collaboration with cross‑functional teams including Operations, Compliance, and Finance.
- Serve as a key point of contact with regulators and other governmental bodies.
- Translate complex regulatory frameworks into practical, actionable and business‑minded legal advice.
- Support civil litigation or regulatory matters as needed.
- Manage a wide range of legal requests and advise on legal risk with an eye towards the strategic goals of the company's US business leaders.
- Collaborate effectively with external counsel and manage external counsel relationships.
- Active membership with a US state bar or equivalent.
- 12+ years of regulatory experience dealing with financial services laws and regulations in a highly‑regulated environment. Prior experience can be in‑house at a regulated financial firm or in the crypto industry (preferable), at a top‑tier law firm, and/or at a regulator.
- Experience driving projects to completion on expedited timelines. Must be highly‑driven, proactive, responsive and precise.
- Experience making strategic recommendations to senior management and senior legal team members. Comfortable navigating legal ambiguity.
