About the Role
We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced, multi-faceted attorney to join Uber's Autonomous Mobility & Delivery legal team as we develop the world's best platform for autonomous vehicles to go to market. This Senior Counsel will own a wide range of regulatory counseling initiatives that govern AV deployments across mobility and delivery use cases in US and international markets. In this role, you'll help build regulatory structures around the world, while advising internal clients against the backdrop of those same evolving rules, and engaging directly with regulators in support of Uber's mission. This role will offer views on AV safety at the vehicle and ADS levels, fleet management, and privacy principles.
You'll also provide counseling on related commercial operations, working closely with cross functional business teams to launch autonomous vehicles across the Uber platform and build Uber capacity to develop the best-in-class autonomous vehicle ecosystem.

- Engage directly with regulators and policymakers worldwide to proactively position Uber for success, reactively respond to regulator interest or inquiries, and help shape the regulatory framework governing Uber's AV efforts
- Collaborate closely with our Policy and Communications team as we advance creative regulatory approaches
- Proactively identify and resolve issues impacting Uber's AV businesses, often through developing and advancing your own proposed solutions
- Engage and negotiate with partners on how to navigate regulatory issues with relevance to commercial agreements
- Develop structures to promote compliance with regulatory obligation, including through engaging with industry coalitions and policymakers
- J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state
- 8+ years of legal experience in private practice, in‑house and/or government OR Minimum 7 years, including +1 year Uber internal
- Familiarity with Uber or expertise in the logistics and platform businesses that make up our Go Anywhere‑Get Anything portfolio, from Mobility to Delivery, and from Autonomous Vehicles to Sidewalk Robots
- Experience with regulatory issues around autonomous vehicles, drones, or eVTOLs, as well as with conventional vehicle regulatory frameworks
- Strong, team‑oriented collaborator, with confidence and flexibility to perform in nimble, rapidly changing and growing environments, as well as build relationships and gain credibility with business and legal partners
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and a track record of building new or improving existing programs or processes, preferably in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience providing business‑focused, executable counseling that demonstrates leadership in assessing regulatory issues
- Excellent drafting, written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt legal requirements in balanced, creative and pragmatic ways to facilitate clear and open communication at all levels of the organization
- Curiosity, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them
- Ability to translate complex legal issues and ambiguity into clear and simple advice, to communicate effectively with non‑legal internal colleagues, and to interface with a broad range of senior business managers, executives and other colleagues and professionals across our company
